[ jyn sighs, abruptly (and fairly melodramatically) throwing herself back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. ]
Maybe that is what they tried to wake up. Another-- ugh can we think of a different word besides god.
[ what she hates the most about the concept of deities is the superiority, the supremacy that comes with it, just because of a perceived power, and that isn't easy to divorce from the idea of gods. they need a placeholder word. ]
Maybe if we think of it like another species, with their powers as a genetic evolution.
[ not as dramatically, but cassian lays down again too, wanting to stay in close. there is nothing on the ceiling to stare at, but it does let him try to envision the dream. ]
Either wake these... beings up, or whatever the creature was. Maybe both. Spinetail wanted to wake up a beast, right? I thought of something as my creation. If it had power, it makes sense for people to chase that too.
[ why are there so many goddamn birds. ]
Meadowlark for the beings, Spinetail for the being's creations.
[ drily: ] I suspect Henries would have more information.
[ but that guy had to go and be both a dead end and dead. her fingers tap against the mattress as she thinks, mulling over who might have the appropriate information.
[ maybe it makes jyn very hypocritical, she does not care. she is hypocritical about a lot of things, add this to the fucking list. jot it down. ]
That's where Ren got his information, isn't it? Why not go straight to the source. Ball, as well. He certainly knows more than he's telling and I'm past tired of this cryptic bullshit.
[ cassian sighs. ] I do not have to like a source to recognize it as one. I certainly do not trust Cassius, but it does not mean he doesn't have information.
[ he is a spy jyn! sources are allowed to be questionable! ]
If only Ball were easier to reach out to. Cassius as well. But yes. I could do with a break from the cryptic. It is just more and more pieces, but the numbers keep increasing.
[ cassius is another story entirely and jyn's features scrunch up all over again as she tries to think of a way they can reach out to cassian. aside from the obvious of putting him on blast on the network and going outside and yelling at the clouds.
[ it's always we and most people know it by now. jyn and cassian are a team. they might have separate hobbies, different vocations, different taste in water temperature, separate friends, but they're still a team at the end of the day. or the middle of the night.
maybe it's early morning by now. ]
That power, it sounded like hers.
[ reflexively, her arm draws back to her chest. the pain of clarke's power had been excruciating and at the time jyn stubbornly powered through it until it was consumed by the grief of almost losing cassian and very much losing caroline. but in the aftermath, once clarke had come to her senses and returned the life to jyn's shriveled, blackened arm, there were still phantom pains. ]
I remember. [ jyn had told him about the experience in zerzura, another horrifying story to add to their collection of terrors. ]
[ but. ]
[ it reminds him of something that's slowly been nagging at him as he organizes his thoughts. if the displays were powers - ]
If that power is Clarke's, what if - what if the ground shaking was mine? [ it's not something he thinks he can do, but then again he's never really tried to do it. his running theory for his spine was power loss to a medi unit, presumably from an earthquake - but he'd just witnessed the ground shaking beneath a medi unit, alongside a handful of other powers scattered in the facility. he has control over the ground, who knows where that could lead? ]
[ her lips purse, considering it. she can feel the dangerous ground it could open up for how cassian feels about his back. they've been running on the theory that he was in a medi-unit during the earthquake in 2510, that is why his back didn't heal properly, why he has the cybernetics.
if he caused the earthquake...
maybe that is why their powers start so small, because they can't control them otherwise, but it could be a different explanation all together and she refuses to put cassian's own injuries on his shoulders until she knows more. ]
[ he hasn't even touched on how it would make him feel, if he'd caused his own injuries and necessitated his own surgery. first he wants to confirm or refute it. power loss to the medi unit still seems the most likely cause - it's just what initiated that disconnect he's evidently added another theory in. ]
[ his frown is deep, but more thoughtful than unhappy. ]
The last time I had a dream like this, it was not the only dream nor was I the only person. I will give it a few days, but if no one else comes forward, I can.
[ he gUESSES. people don't seem as willing to share as they used to be. ]
it's probably going to take quite a while, like most things do, but cassian is so good at following the tiniest threads of information, if anyone is going to be able to figure this out it is cassian andor. ]
[ you know he can't turn his brain off like that! there are too many thoughts swimming around in his head, even if half of them don't make any sense. ]
[ he leans over and brushes a kiss atop her head. ] Go back to sleep. I am going to read for a little while.
[ jyn studies him for a long moment, clearly weighing if she trusts he will sleep in a timely manner. she decides to give him the benefit of the doubt and sinks back down on their bed, pulling the blankets up over herself. ]
[ but at least he burrows back into bed beside her in a much more timely manner, letting her curling up against him lull him back to sleep instead. progress? ]
