There's a lot more to you than your prison time. I've spent the last six months camping out in the jungle, and it's no prison but it feels like we're trapped, all the same.
You're not dead or in prison now. Have you thought about what you want to do, now that you've got another chance?
No one really knew who they were back then, before the Battle of Yavin. Which they only won because of what you and your crew did on Scarif. Without those plans the whole Rebellion would have been wiped out that day.
[ jyn abruptly sits down and since she wasn't actually hiding in her room but roaming the halls, she sits down with her back against the wall. ]
We didn't know if anyone received the plans.
The shield gate was closed and we didn't know if anyone got it open or if they hit the master switch. After a while people stopped answering their comms when we hailed them so we stopped calling.
[ one by one they stopped responding. first k2, then sefla, bodhi, tonc, melshi, chirrut, baze. she didn't know the names of the bodies they'd passed on the beach but cassian has probably tried to raise them on comms too.
[ He kind of figured that, with as many people running around from his own time, someone would have told her by now. Not that telling her in person would have necessarily made this easier to take in, hearing about a future she wouldn't have been around to see or even hear about, if not for the anomaly. ]
It was close. The shield went down, but by that time Vader and the rest of the Imperial fleet were right on top of them. A lot of good people didn't make it out that day.
[ They knew that was going to happen, successful mission or no, when they made the call to go all in. ]
Never thought I'd get to talk to any of them myself.
[ jyn is sat on the floor, legs splayed in front of her, knotting and unknotting a length of a pretty, silky fabric that looks out of place with her scruffy jumpsuit that looks like she scavenged it from someone else so she could make an extra sandwich instead of another jumpsuit.
[ Poe wasn't holding onto any particular expectations. Deliberately. Years ago? He absolutely would have been starstruck by the chance to meet an old hero of the Rebellion, it was all stories about huge battles and Jedi and Sith and planet-destroying weapons, none of which he had any experience with — at that point.
He does now.
He's coming off of a year of trying to hold a fraying, fading Resistance together, so this feels familiar somehow, actually. His own clothes are fairly worn too, they've been through a lot of skirmishes and living out in the jungle. ]
[ jyn looks up and makes a face, utterly childish because she is baby. ]
No, I have a bed.
[ sometimes she sleeps on the floor instead of the bed, but no one needs to know that, she puts the blanket just so so no one can see her under the bunk except cassian who doesn't judge her eccentricities.
she gives the fabric a sharp yank and the knot unspools in her lap, but she makes no move to stand up, jerking her head to the side as if offering him the free real estate of the floor next to her. ]
So you're Poe Dameron, who I definitely haven't seen naked yet.

[ If he sounds amused, it's because he's thinking about Rey, and her ability and willingness to sleep practically anywhere. There's a rough edge to Jyn that's similar, he assumes grown from the fact that she's spent so much time on her own, fighting to make her own way. It makes his own youth seem a hell of a lot more safe and comfortable by comparison.
He takes the gesture as an invitation, and seemingly without reservation about the fact that he's meeting what amounts to a war hero for the first time, he'll settle on the cool, smooth floor next to her, half-turned in her direction.
He's come a long way from the star-struck teenager he was once. Years of facing the harsh realities of war will do that to a person. ]
And you're Jyn Erso, who I haven't seen naked yet either. Just for the record I don't usually lead with that.
Maybe you should. Get all the awkwardness out of the way.
[ if she's ignoring poe CORRECTLY calling her out on not knowing how to properly use a bed because she spent last six months on duracrete, well. she ignores things, that is her thing, he's probably already used to it.
she picks up the strip of fabric again and begins looping it all over again, almost like a flower, loops making petals. ]
[ Poe has no idea where she's going with this, but hey, he's on board. Despite knowing a fair amount about her past, maybe so much that it might be awkward to tell her, no one in the Rebellion really knew her. At least not anyone who didn't die with her, and it's not like her personality would have really made it into the records anyway, though what comments he did find made for a vivid impression.
So he offers her his hands, palms up and open. ]
Only if that's something you're curious to see anyway.
[ He's not shy, but somehow it would feel weird at this point if she was clinically inspecting a nude picture of him. Even if it's probably nothing she hasn't seen before. ]
[ jyn eyes him, which is notable not because she is looking him over but because she hasn't really looked at him yet. he's all disheveled curls and a dusting of stubble and little wrinkles by his eyes because he probably smiles a lot and, kark, he is really handsome.
she abruptly looks down, sliding the loops over his hands and twisting the tail of the sash between them to pull the loops taut around his wrists. he shouldn't be able to get out but the whole knot comes apart easily with a single tug of one of the dangling ends so maybe he will figure it out. ]
Test if they're secure?
[ without the ribbon of fabric to distract her hands, her fingers knit together in her lap. ]
Stripping in the hallway is probably frowned open, don't worry.
[ He sees it coming once she starts sliding those loops over his hands, though why is still up in the air, and while a somewhat more skeptical reaction might be to have some concern over the apparent restriction he's clearly not. It's not just about knowing who she is, he's just been tied up before, he's confident that he can manage just fine despite it. When he needs his hands free he'll fiddle with that knot, otherwise he wasn't planning on going anywhere anyway.
He will tug his hands apart to test the hold though, his lips twitching into a smile as he looks back up at her, eyebrows arched slightly in a 'well you've got me, now what?' kind of look. ]
Is it? Somehow I've got a feeling that no one around here would be surprised.
[ He still has his hands somewhat outstretched toward her, his shoulders hunched slightly. ]
But if you've got me tied up and naked people will definitely start getting ideas about what's going on here.
[ even sitting jyn can tell there is a height difference, generally aware of how she fits in relation to others, but he also looks well fed. jyn might be a small block of muscle, but she's been ignoring hunger pangs since she was 16 and she isn't foolish enough to ignore his advantages.
even if she isn't intending to start a fight. ]
You're barely tied up, [ she counters, a flicker of a smile touching her lips. ] And it would be silly to tie you up before getting your shirt off so you're safe from any nakedness.

My wanted posters aside, I am not very interesting. I spent the last six months in prison.
[ which is as much an opening to ask questions as she is capable of giving ]

Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging you. My parents got out too. Settled down on Yavin 4 actually, practically in the shadow of the old temple.

You parents were in the Alliance?

I'm sorry I can't tell you I knew them. I was only there for a few days.
[ she genuinely is. if they were young enough to start a family they couldn't have been that much older than her. ]
Though if we'd met it would have been because of Scarif so maybe I'm not sorry anymore.
[ that was a stream of conscious journey she went on ]

... Did you know that already?
