No, Kay took part in the evacuations, Cassian couldn't. [ she feels compelled (by guilt) to rationalize why she didn't even think about joining the evacuation teams. yuuri is such a good person, she feels exponentially more terrible just existing near him. ] I've already seen planets destroyed, I couldn't see another one.

[yokunaru]

[Softly, remembering what she's told him about the war back home--] I don't think anyone would blame you for that, Jyn.

[Then he pauses, realizing that he doesn't recognize one of those names.] Is Kay another friend from your galaxy?

[ jyn's voice softens despite herself. ] Kay is Cassian's best friend. Have you seen an irritatingly tall black droid stomping around? That's Kay.

Viktor mentioned one was part of the evacuation team he joined, but I'm not sure if that was your friend or not.

What's he like? I haven't met a droid before.

Sarcastic, rude, sullen, unnecessarily mean to me in particular, rubbish sense of humor.

[ a beat. ] Probably a good shot though.

[There’s a confused sort of pause on his end. Definitely not the answer he was expecting when he asked.]

Why would he be mean to you in particular? I mean, I thought you were all friends.

Kay is very statistically minded, since he's a droid. I'm something of a... [ hmmm, how would she describe herself? ] I'm a violent variable which made me dangerous. Dangerous to Cassian most of all so we didn't start off on a particularly solid footing.

[ the way her nose crinkles up is almost verbal. ] And, I suppose, the fact that I almost shot him maybe have something to do with it.

[yokunaru]

ohhh. [There's realization in that tone right there.] I guess anyone would be cranky if they got shot at.

[A pause.] Do droids feel it if they get shot? [Look, he's never met one before, this is a perfectly valid question.]

[ it is perfectly valid but it makes jyn's chest tighten and her stomach rolling over thinking about kay's last moments spent saving cassian (and, by default, her) and the inconsolable look in cassian's eyes when he realized his best friend sacrificed himself to save them.

is there anything in her life not soured by death? she packs all that away to answer yuuri after a protracted pause, voice thin but even. ]

They don't, I don't think so. But Kay is special, he very well may, if only to be contrary.

Oh. [While he has no idea what's going through her mind at the moment, he did notice that pause.

Gingerly, he says-] I'd still like to meet him. Um, unless you think it's a bad idea?
