[okay so MAYBE the party at taako's house wasn't too terrible. it was an exhausting social routine, especially because there's no relief that comes from taking off a persona in the after, but he's also still warm from the alcohol and jyn's arm keeps brushing against his as it's done all evening, so right now he has zero complaints as he unlocks the door to their apartment. as soon as they're inside, he abruptly realizes he called it theirs and promptly ignores it.]
[it's extra nice to come home, because maybe there's a patch of soreness in his spine, a tiny pinch that usually comes with a long day on his feet. he's had worse out beyond the wall, but some days it just acts up for no explainable reason. he's very good at hiding it, and definitely did so all night, but it's very easy to let himself slump just a little bit once they're in. jyn knows about it, so it doesn't matter! it does make it too awkward to pull off his shoes though, feeling too stiff to lean over, so he just sort of lazily kicks them off instead of the usual careful routine.]
We should drink some water, before we go to bed. [no hangovers pls and thank. not that they're wasted, but he's still thinking about tomorrow.]
[the fireworks can stop, literally any time now. once in a while it still catches him off guard and he'll jump, especially if he's not back home by the time they start. today is one of those days where they go off when he's a few blocks from the communal housing. this time, however, his brusque walk home is accompanied by an animal.]

[it follows him all the way the home, making little mewing noises while cassian steadfastly ignores it. it follows him into the elevator and paces at his feet the entire ride up. as he walks down the hall towards his room, cassian realizes the ignoring method probably isn't going to work.]
[when jyn comes home, cassian's cooking up some dinner, and the cat is still there. now it's just sitting near the cabinet, occasionally mewling up and headbutting at his ankles.]
[so in conclusion, dancing makes cassian's back hurt. that's two separate cases now where the soreness seeped in to an unexpected harshness, but then again, he's probably not used to moving that way. dancing is a different flexibility. running is easier because it's familiar to his muscles, but he'll probably be dealing with a bad back for whatever amount of time he ends up spending in riverview. he could... do something about it, but he also hates acknowledging weakness. he signals to jyn he needs to leave the rave, and she barely hesitates in slipping beside him to weave outside.]

[one is a picture of the cat, curled up on the couch. another is a candid someone (taako) took of the two of them sitting and chatting quietly, but they're laughing together. the third is a selfie he took a couple days ago, leaning over on the couch and telling her to smile. she'd scrunched up her nose, but he managed to pull a tiny one out of her.]
[they don't have pictures. they don't have holos or images of their youth, but there's no reason it can't start now.]
[they've been here a year. it's a very weird realization and fact, but it's one he's fine with. jyn has been in his life for a year! that's longer than almost everyone.]
